Saint Patricks Day!

Well, we didn't catch the leprechaun...he managed to escape the trap. Better luck next year! He did, however, leave green footprints all around and a big pile of gold! He also glittered where he walked. Obviously he wasn't too worried about cleaning up! Here is a pic of the kids with their leprechaun loot.

Leprechaun trap

So Miss C decided to build a leprechaun trap this year. She really, really, really wants to catch the leprechaun and keep him as our family pet. After a few brainstorming sessions, she decided on a plastic cup with a "bed" inside (and a few cotton balls for good measure). She didn't think a top was necessary because once the leprechaun was inside he wouldn't be able to get back out again. We also left pennies around the trap to "entice" him.

Fishin' and friends

It was a warm February day today and we decided to head to the pond to do a little fishin' with some friends. We've fished in this pond a couple of times and the kids always have a good time. We typically bring a picnic dinner and hang out for the evening.
We only had 2 fishing poles for the 3 kids so we had to rotate and share. I love that Little J found his own "pole" in the process. Wonder if he caught any fish?!

So this was originally written on 2/25. It's not 3/9 and I'm finally downloading the pictures off my camera that relate to this story. How sad is that! I haven't picked up the camera in almost 2 weeks (let alone take a single picture of the two of them in that long) and I'm getting the shakes. It's been a little busy around here with some heavy spring cleaning, so pictures have taken a backseat. Anyway, here's the gem from a couple of weeks ago:

Yesterday the kids were in rare form. Fighting like cats and dogs all afternoon. I don't know what was going on, but they haven't fought like that in a long, long, time. I guess I'm thankful for that, but give me a break. I guess it didn't help that I had a million phone calls to make and was trying to get a bunch of stuff done. I kind of had to let them battle it out while I was on the phone. After awhile I hear Little J yelling, "I need some tape!" Then I hear Miss C crying and screaming at the top of her lungs.

So I head up there and see Little J with a piece of paper, a pen, and a piece of tape that he had swiped from her. He was running into his room. As I'm passing by her room, I see this:
"No brutrs ulawd in my rom!" (No brothers allowed in my room!). And then a second statement saying the same thing (you just have to read upwards) for good measure. She's all about exclamation points right now. When we read, she insists you have to shout the word right before the exclamation point. And I love the picture of the little boy frowning. Way to drive home the point.

Then I go into Little J's room and he is furiously writing this:
In case you don't read 3 year old, it very clearly says, "No girls allowed in my room."

After he was done writing it, he took the tape and hung it up on his door.

So this morning when Miss C got up, I asked her if she was going to fight with her brother today like she did yesterday. I told her I hoped that it would be better today because yesterday was a little too much to handle for this mama. She looked at me and told me that he wasn't allowed to have any of her paper (and implying that as long as he didn't take her paper, they would be fine). I told her that it's nice to share and how would she feel if he had something that she wanted and he wouldn't share with her. To which she replied:

"Well, he doesn't have very exciting stuff. So I don't need it."

Touche! (and yes, I shouted that one)

Argh me mateys!

Pirate day at TK! The cutest little pirate, I might add. We fashioned a costume out of some of our old t-shirts and I think it worked out well :)

The real reason

So my kids bug me for snacks all day long....all day long. I finally had to eliminate the afternoon snack because dinner was so hit or miss and I suspected they weren't really hungry come dinner time.

So just today as they were whining about getting a snack in the afternoon, Miss C looks and me and says, "Mom, the reason we are not eating our dinner is because we don't like it. Not because we are having a snack."

Well, there you go.

Happy Valentines Day!

So, the first two months of 2011 are probably going to be out of order some....I have stuff in January that I need to blog, but for today, it's going to be on time. Happy Valentines Day! Miss C is a little under the weather and missed her Valentine's day celebration at school. What a bummer. She's been looking forward to it for weeks. What did she get to do instead? Visit the eye doctor :). I had an appointment for myself (first one in like 8 years....shame, shame) and they had time to squeeze her in. She "failed" one of the eye exams during her yearly well child check back in November so the pedi thought it would be a good idea to follow up with an eye doctor. While we were waiting, she tried on a couple of pair of glasses....man, did she look cute. Not that I want her to have poor vision, but she would look so stinkin' cute with glasses on. Fortunately for her, she doesn't need to wear any. I think her vision is 20/25 or something like that, so no need at this point.

Back to Valentine's day, here are a couple from a shoot I did a couple of weeks ago.....
